Yes – whenever it’s necessary! Replacements windows aren’t particularly sensitive to environmental factors, unlike the materials involved in a job like paving – where the time of year and weather can really impact the stability and longevity of the final product.
In some parts of the country you wouldn’t want to get your windows replaced in the middle of winter due to the cold air that’s going to invade your house, but in Seattle it’s not a huge concern. Even when it is cold outside, the window installers can usually close the doors in the rooms where they’re replacing windows. Your home only ends up losing heat out of the room where they’re currently working.
Window replacement pros also have systems for putting up temporary barriers for large areas, like living rooms, where there aren’t doors you can easily close to isolate the effected room.
Heavy rain is really the only common Seattle-area weather event that has the potential to delay your window replacement job. We don’t want a bunch of wind-blown water flying in your home. It’s also best not to be on ladders or carrying large panes of glass when it’s wet and slippery.
Lightning is another weather phenomenon that may make window replacement dangerous, especially if ladders will be necessary.
Many people do decide to replace their windows in the months leading up to when they will be using their HVAC system the most. If you run your air conditioner a lot during the summer, installing new windows in the spring may be a good idea. If you want to lower your home’s energy consumption during the winter, replacing your windows in the fall may be ideal.
One factor that could affect your scheduling is your window replacement company’s volume of business. If there’s a specific date or time you’d prefer the job to be done, you may not be able to get your requested time slot if the company has a lot of other jobs scheduled at the same time and all their teams are booked.
Procraft Windows has many teams of skilled window replacement professionals, so chances are we can work within your preferred schedule. We encourage you to schedule your window replacement when it’s most convenient for you.

There are some things to keep in mind when you’re getting windows replaced. In most cases spring and summer will be the busiest times of year for window replacement. Scheduling during winter may actually give you more choices if you want to have the job done on a specific day or time.
You should also look for discounts or rebates from your replacement window’s manufacturer as well as rebates for energy-saving windows offered by federal and state governments and local utility companies. It may turn out that you can get a better window for the same price as a less efficient window when you take discounts and rebates into account.
You can find a list of government rebates available for a variety of energy-efficiency home improvements here on Seattle City Light’s website. This includes a $50 per window rebate for ENERGY STAR®-certified replacement windows with a U-factor of 0.30 or less and a $50 per patio door rebate for ENERGY STAR®-certified replacement patio doors with a U-factor of 0.35 or less. That rebate is only available for metal framed windows and doors.
In addition to windows and doors, the city also offers insulation rebates (50 percent of materials, labor and tax up to $500) if your energy-efficiency upgrades meet Seattle’s requirements. You can download the rebate forms here.
You should also browse through the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency to see if you may qualify for any other state rebates or incentives.
